Do you count a reread towards your yearly book goal total? I feel like it should count.

    1. Haha. I used to think it didn’t and it stopped me from rereading. I would count that now, especially if you’re rereading something you read a while ago.

If your goal is to read a certain number of books, yes I say you should count it.

    3. I track whether or not a book is a reread in my spreadsheet so I’m able to have total books read (2024: 159) and total new-to-me books read (2024: 88). I don’t count rereads for my “favorite books of the year” roundup because that would be less interesting as I reread books that are already favorites, but I count them for all my other statistics.

    4. It depends on what your goal is exactly? To read many words? To finish many different stories? To add variety to your reading? To spend time reading?

For some of those goals, rereading would count. For some of them, it wouldn’t count. Since this is your personal goal, with no accountability to anyone but you, figure it out in whatever way makes sense for you.

The point of my reading goal is to motivate myself to pick up a book instead of my phone, so I do count re-reads.
