I read My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh a while ago and loved it. I would love to read more books where the plot is basically the main character(s) trying to figure out life. I'm especially interested in cultures/lives that are different from my own (white, middle class, cis gender American).
I also read an article recently that talked about how a lot of books these days don't deal with the financial pressures that most people are dealing with in real life. When I think of books that do – like Grapes of Wrath – they're old books. I'd love to read ones where the main character(s) aren't automatically well-off and have to deal with things like low-paying jobs, high rent, etc. That doesn't have to be the central theme by any means, but it would be important in the life of someone who is dealing with it.
