Hi, guys! Need your recommendation for my 10 year old niece who loves the Harry Potter series because of Hermione and Luna. I really want to surprise her with a new book series with female main leads that she can add on her mini library. ♥️

It’s 4 books long – so maybe not long enough.
But I’m sure she would love the Enchanted Forest Series.
Charlie Thorne is 4 books long currently. It’s unclear if there’s any more coming.
I loved The Princess School series when I was younger! A modern take on the classic princess stories
Savvy series by Ingrid Law
*His Dark Materials*. Three main books (I recommend the Chris-Wormell-illustrated trilogy), three short spinoff books, and a still-in-the-works prequel/sequel trilogy called *The Book of Dust* with more mature content for when she gets older.
Maybe Philip Pullman’s *His Dark Materials* trilogy *(The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass)*? It’s not a long series, but it’s really well written and interesting, with a female protagonist.
Naomi Novik Scholomance series
Tamora Pierce! Start with the Alana books or Protector of the Small
Anne McCaffrey’s Pern series.
Mercedes Lackey: Most of her books have string female characters, but the Valdemar books (starting with Arrows of the Queen) are great.
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor! People have said it’s akin to a “Nigerian Harry Potter”.
It features a female protagonist, concepts about how your uniqueness is a strength, and has the added benefit of being set on a continent which she possibly has never read about!
Content wise it’s similar to Harry Potter – magic world hidden in a non-magic world, students attempting to increase their understanding of Juju, and a solid story!
It’s followed by Akata Warrior and Akata Woman, it’s a really great trilogy.
Nnedi has a lot of novels written for that age group, Zahrah the Windseeker is a great standalone
The Abhorsen Series by Garth Nix, starting with _Sabriel_. There’s three original books and then two or three additions since then. Main character of each as far as I remember is a teen, but I read it when I was about 10 and was a fan immediately.
The Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend is perfect for your request! It’s not super long but the fourth book comes out early this year. The first three are super fun.
The Sister’s Grimm is a great kids book series with two female leads. Its about two orphan girls coming into a city where Fairy Tail characters really exist, and discovering their own family history and involvement and solving mysteries.
The Frog Princess by E.d Baker is another great series with female lead. Following and breaking from The Frog Princess tale, set in a world of witches and magic.
The Goose Girl series by Shannon Hale, again goes of the well known Goose Girl tale, puts into a novelization with unique powers, etc. The MCs in this series do switch around- all females and all related friends in the universe.
A Tale of Two Castles, female lead, apprenticed to a magical dragon detective.
Not fantasy but Front Desk is a great kids fiction series with a female lead.
*A Series of Unfortunate Events*? The protagonists are a pair of siblings–Violet and Klaus–and their baby sister Sunny. Violet and Klaus split the main character role and invert some gendered stereotypes since Klaus is the poetic bookworm and Violet is the science genius.
Nancy Drew ( i particularly like the hardcover books)
Go for {Keeper of the lost cities by Shannon Messenger}. I was looking for stromg FMC book for my niece and got her this series, she lovvved it!
Chronicles of Narnia, sort of. Definitely in the first book (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) Lucy is the protagonist. She’s very important in the second (Prince Caspian) and even moreso in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The cast of characters changes throughout the series but other female leads (Jill and Polly) star in later books.
“The Frog Princess” and sequels by E.D. Baker are a ton of fun
Patricia C. Wrede’s Enchanted Forest Chronicles series starting with “Dealing With Dragons”
I really enjoy Amari and the Night Brothers. Three books are out and it’s going to be six.
The Menagerie Trilogy by Tui T Sutherland. It has a male MC who immediately meets the female MC who is like a combination of Ginny, Hermione, and Luna – a little zany, always up for an adventure, always tired and picking up other people’s slack. The boy has no friends and then finds a secret zoo full of magical creatures (operated by the girl’s parents) and gets to work there.
Ranger’s Apprentice: The Royal Ranger books has a female protagonist in an apprenticeship. Well-written and engaging
