I am after a book about risk and how to think about risk as a human operating in this world in 2025, perhaps something philosophical but not a textbook or a study guide.
Something readable / engaging with lots of examples and thought would be excellent. I don't mind if its coming from a professional domain (e.g. finance) but should be applicable to a wider set of domains.
Something like Fooled by Randomness (Taleb) but for risk / risk compensation / quantification etc.
Thank you 🙂

Against The Gods by Petter L. Bernstein
Coming at this at a bit of a tangent as nobody has recommended anything so far, maybe something like Freakanomics. It’s playful storytelling of modern economics which naturally includes factoring loads if risk.
So expect obsure and unextended ‘economic’ retellings (such as the approx pay structure of crack dealers to how dangerous a home pool is compared to other risky things. I’m pretty sure there’s a few mistakes in there but they seem sincere guys and they’re not alarmist hacks (in my view). They’ve done a few other books as well if you like the general idea of this.
