Okay, not a theme. But I don't know what's the name for it. Just, let me explain..
So, you all know how common is it for a story to have a relationship between a mortal and immortal right? And at the end it's always the mortal one died leaving the immortal alone, but their bond is so strong that the immortal won't ever forget them, blablabla, etc..
But….
I have never found a story where it's the other way. (Huh?)
Like, there's the 2 having a relationship. The story made a build up on their bond and eventually the talk about what if someday the mortal one's gonna beldead, leaving the immortal. But suddenly in one chapter, boooommmm… Somehow the immortal one is the one who dies first, making the mortal shocked because it's totally different that what they've imagined…
I tried to find a story like that on google, like, I went and scrolled past 100 pages to search for it and find nothing. What do you mean by million years of humanity and not a single writer ever wrote about this?
And I know what you wanna say and complain after reading this. Yes, I do use the word immortal loosely. I know that immortal literally mean that you can't die…. What I wanna say is 'a creature who have long lasting life span' but that just so long to write, so I'll just call them immortal, also I don't know what's the name for it if they ever have it, I'm not English native. I'm sorry
So, yeah.. Can someone help me find the story about it? It's also fine if it's not about book. Can be films, or even video games…. Just tell me if you know one.

The word you are looking for is plot device or trope. The typical way is a trope, but the reverse would be more like a plot device because tropes are things you see all the time that are overused.

The closest one I can think of to your idea is a sci fi, where a 20th century guy gets kidnapped by time travelers, and they all end up bouncing around the timeline, until at one point they’re centuries ahead of even the time the time travelers hail from, and the poor 20th century human gets caught up in a relationship with a super human android woman, who’s pretty much immortal, and shows the man sights to blow his mind. He basically becomes addicted to her and her world, but then suddenly must leave it all, to return to bouncing around again. It’s devastating to him.
