After taking a VERY long hiatus from consistent reading (5 kids in 13 years and the twins are finally sleeping) I found myself slowly consuming the beautiful work of Sigred Undset's Kristin Lavransdatter, heartbreakingly taking in The Midwife of Auschwitz and was later successfully sucked back into the world of can't put it down books by Robert Galbraith's Comoran Strike series. I have loved watching Strike and Robin's relationship grow and the thrill of fighting for what is good and right. I devoured the audiobooks for all of them and began desperately searching for this thing I've been missing so much in my life – literary escape.
But I can't seem to find something to move on to and I fear my momentum will die.
I've historically loved fantasy, sci fi, historical fiction. I love a book that truly makes you care. Good world building. Excellent character building. I don't mind a love story either. No horror. No occult. No child abuse for the sake of entertainment (I sobbed through the Midwife of Auschwitz but it was a true story and felt it was the last I could do to remember them and try and give their memory dignity by seeing it and not ignoring it).
I've been eye rolling my way through ACOTAR nearly putting each of the first three down but having them barely catch me enough to finish with the last 20% of the book. Too much of those books just doesn't compute. I actually enjoyed Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. Though I'm more into the emotion and the relationships of the characters than the smut.
I tried Name of the Wind at my husband's suggestion but didn't finish.
In case my list of recent reads doesn't give it away, I have no idea what I want but I want to keep reading. Would love some guidance on narrowing my options down!
