In recent years, I've only been recommended cringey romance novels with a pick-me protagonist who loves to fall for toxic men. I’m not a fan of sex or kissing scenes in books (I'm ace), and I despise self-centered protagonists who think they’re more special than everyone else. I’m open to horror, fantasy, adventure, thrillers—anything really. I want slow burn romance that focuses on the emotional side of relationships rather than the physical. The book doesn’t necessarily have to include romance, I just want to read something that involves a meaningful emotional connection built over time.

The Night Circus is quite romantic, but unconventional, and totally magical.

Shooting from the hip here but you might really like A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende. It’s the best example I can think of!
