Look for a similar book series, I love the Bosch Series because it shows the Main Characters actively solving the crime, interviews, reading through the "murder book" , no frills, minimal detours. Other books i like are, Louise Penny's Armande Gamache, the Bones -tempe brennen series, Comoron Strike and of course Rene Ballard
Just to further narrow further the field, I didn't like Lucas Davenport Series-J sandford, spends most of his time trying to sleep with other people than solve the case, very little focus solving the crime. I liked the early Will Trent books, but then it got really dark and disturbing ( i am not into authors, that write for shock value)
