My dad killed himself yesterday in a hotel he had been for 5 days. He went down, had breakfast, went back up and killed himself. He was 55. His parents had died many years ago, his wife had divorced him years ago, and his kids (me and my brother) didn't talk to him. He was on the run from the police for a debt that he had around 15 years ago to a business partner. The initial debt wasn't that much but because of the years gone by since then it was now an insane amount. Don't ask, Iran's stupid rules. Since I went no contact with him years ago, all of this information is new to me and was said to me by his close friend yesterday after he died. I had to go to the hotel room where he killed himself with my brother scorted by a police man. His torn clothes were on the floor. There was a small suitcase in the corner of the bedroom. All of his belongings were in that small hotel room. The room was warm. It still smelled like a person was living inside. His cigarette butts were on the floor. There was a bottle of perfume on the bed. His hairdryer was there. All of his credit cards were lined up on the drawer along with his passport. I didn't go to his funeral, only my brother did. I don't know how I'm feeling. All of the books about dealing with a loved one's death by a suicide are about people who had a relationship. Do you know of any that applies to me and my situation?

First of all – my sincere condolences.

I would recommend Grief is a thing with feathers by Max Porter. It is written from the perspective of a father losing his wife, and not through suicide, but there are elements in the story which I think apply to everyone, regardless of their relationship to the deceased.

    2. Maybe you should talk to someone..Try this book…It has a similar case …It helped me through grief in my hard times……I know it’s very hard for you but you will get past this…Try to read the book and hope you recover soon.
