Well written historical fiction featuring royalty, any time period
Time period doesn't matter. I just want something featuring royalty or affluent characters, but is well written. I don't like when the main plot point is romance unless it's very well done. Thank you!!
Hilary Mantel’s ‘Wolf Hall’ trilogy won many accolades.

Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel comes to mind. I love her books set in the Tudor era. The main POV is Thomas Cromwell but Henry VII is a prominent character and the storytelling is amazing, chronicling Henry’s wish to marry Anne Boleyn. Their romance is not the main plot, it’s more a character study of Cromwell and court intrigue. There are also multiple sequels if you like the first one.
Tolstoy also writes about nobility, but his novels require a bit of commitment.. Anna Karenina and War & Peace are both 800-1200pages… if you have the time, though, I highly recommend them!

If you’re willing to read 1450 pages that feel like 1,000,000, *War and Peace*.
It’s legitimately one of the most impressive books ever written, but it is LONG.

Some favorites. Crown in Candlelight by Rosemary Hawley Jarman. Katherine by Anya Seton. Green Darkness by Anya Seton.
