I like the berrybender chronicles by McMurtry best after lonesome. Its more violent but less serious. Very entertaining, sometimes just funny.
The prequels and sequels to Lonesome Dove are just ok.

If you are looking for another massive read, Shogun and Count of Monte Cristo are supposed to be up there. Reads I plan to get to this year.

Well, yeah: read the other three books in the saga. In spite of the mixed reviews relative to Lonesome Dove, they are still likely to be better than most of the other books you might pick up.

East of Eden might do the trick.

You might consider “Familiaris” by David Wroblewski. It’s something unique and different. Highly recommend the audiobook for this one read by Richard Poe. I recently finished this and I think it’s a great read for many. It includes some historical elements as well.

I thought Comanche Moon was pretty dadgum good. Almost a Gothic tint to it. Also, “Last of The Breed,” By LLA is excellent as well.
