Something with a lot of detail whether it’s on intergalactic space travel, magic or monsters. A serious tone but also some humor. Adventure, drama. Something creative.
I love themes of friendship and deep bonds, self sacrifice, lovable valiant characters that are rough around the edges (not big on romance).
Thank you in advance 🙂

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir – this book will absolutely blow your mind in ways you won’t see coming. Detailed space science, genuinely hilarious moments, and features one of the most unique and beautiful friendships in sci-fi. Zero romance, just pure survival and discovery with mind-blowing alien concepts. The main character is rough around the edges but incredibly endearing. Going in blind is best – you’re in for a treat.
The Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson is a great one, based on most of the criteria you gave. I’m still blown away by some of the reveals, and the magic system here’s an interesting one too. There’s some romance later on but it’s nothing mushy and touchy feely lol. It’s mostly there as part of the world.
The OG Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown’s also a good one! I binge read these stupidly fast lol
Dungeon Crawler Carl (audiobook is the superior version) has a lot of dark humor but such well laid out characters with such amazing growth. Plus the main character’s best friend is a cat.
Also, the Bobverse series. First book is We are Legion, We are Bob.
