Hi all; my partner has been reading a lot of true-crime adjacent novels lately, and has come to the realisation she doesn’t really enjoy them. I’ve suggested some nice, escapist fantasy. The thing is, she’s convinced need she doesn’t like fantasy, despite never having really engaged with it (her mental image of fantasy is The Lord of the Rings with all of its seriousness and funny names; we did read The Ten Thousand Doors of January together and she enjoyed that, so she’s not completely against heightened fiction). She’s said she’ll try one if I find it, however. So, any suggestions for something nice that she can disappear into, that’s not too dense or heavy on world-building? Ideally, it should have a strong focus on characters and relationships, with maybe a touch of whimsy or magic to keep things interesting without overwhelming her. Bonus points if it’s a little spicy, though this isn’t a requirement. I’ve heard Legends and Lattes is good, but looking to consult with the brains trust.
