I’ve been looking for books in the arabic language or written by arabic speaking authors (including egypt, morocco, or migrant literature etc) that are inspired or similar in style/tone/writing to Thomas Bernhard.

Aka post-second-war author austrian author. Very acidic tone in writing with heavy political themes such as holocaust remembrance, etc that were critical of austrian society at that time. A bit like a very acerbic Kafka and Ingeborg Bachmann mix if I had to put it down.

I would kill for any hints or suggestion. Or even an arabic author that may have read him or seen his work. I really want to write a paper with arabic literature focus😭

I’ve stumbled on Youssef Rakha who wrote ‘The Crocodiles’ on an interview of his mentioning that connection explicitly but have yet to find another similarly inspired book.

If anybody even has some hints or knows arabic authors that are known for engaging with austrian literature, I would be super thankful🥹
