I’m in love with the Edinburgh Nights series by T L Huchu. He’s a black author and the books feature a black teen girl in an alternate Edinburgh dealing with ghosts, politics, magic, and plots. It has both bite and heart. Even though the protagonist is a teen, I’m not sure it’s really YA – and if it is, it’s highly readable for adults.
I need everyone to love Ropa Moyo as much as I do!

I really love The Final Strife by Saara El-Arifi! I haven’t read the final book in the trilogy though, so I can’t speak to how well it ends.
I sadly do not recommend her other book, Faebound, though.
