I'm in high school and have to choose a book to read the whole way through for 2nd semester. I do enjoy reading I can just never find books that click. So here's a list of things I've read and my thoughts:
Hunger games – enjoyed but wasn't deeply in love with it. It was just a fun read and I liked the tension and the desperate characters.
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow – I love how the characters were written, I love the style of writing, I enjoyed the story but mostly I liked the characters/interactions. A fun one.
A series of unfortunate events – Read this one as a kid but was in LOVE with it. I love the tragedy of the characters, love them being witty, loved the story. (also read all the wrong questions and it was pretty good)
The basic eight – picked it up because it's by the same author as ASOUE. Currently about halfway through and i think it's just okay.
Now this one isn't a book but it might as well be: Disco Elysium – LOVE the character writing, character interactions, the overall story, the murder mystery was intriguing and definitely fun to figure out but wasn't the highlight for me. Truly loved seeing main character's growth and the amount of hope and the insanely beautiful quotes from the dialogue.
Aristotle and Dante – Loved the character growth and development and the beautiful writing style. I usually don't care for romances.
I usually don't enjoy fantasy, romance, or historical writing.
My favorite trope is just stories that are incredibly tragic or desperate, and characters are probably the most important aspect to me.
Since I'm reading with a time limit I think anything from 150-300 pages is good. I don't tend to read for long sittings or read much but if I get really interested I definitely will be reading more.
