My friend and I decided to start a little book club with just us in order to help keep each other accountable to start reading more. For our first book we read If Cats Disappeared from the World by Genki Kawamura and while I enjoyed it, I feel like it was a really simple read compared to what we are looking for.
For context, we are both in university, so I am really looking for stand-alone books that aren't much longer than 300 pages at the max, no smut, and any genre besides mysteries and horrors.
However, I would prefer a book that makes you feel sorrowful with tragedies that the characters persevere through with friendships. The best example I can give would be Fruits Basket (anime), but all recommendations are welcomed!
