I read *Station Eleven*, *The Glass Hotel*, and *Sea of Tranquility* this past week. I loved all three for their ideas and interwoven timelines.
However, I am not necessarily looking for something similar plot-wise (although I would be happy to receive recommendations on that front): I’m more interested in novels with similar prose and/or characterizations.
The words that come to mind for Emily St. John Mandel’s writing are “gentle,” “ethereal,” “delicate.” I felt like certain characters would have been much rougher in a different author’s hands. She was able to beautifully capture the vulnerability inside each of them.
I would love to receive recommendations for other writers with these qualities.

Maybe The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
She is so moving and unique. Becky Chambers makes me feel the same, but ymmv.
Her earlier books Last Night in Montreal and The Singer’s Gun were pretty good too. I had to DNF The Lola Quartet though.
Her writing isn’t as complex but perhaps Erica Bauermeister’s Scent Keeper.
Following, I love her writing too!
How High We Go in the Dark gave me similar vibes to Sea of Tranquility
