Looking for fantasy/thriller/romance or mixed genre novels where one or more of the main characters are scientists. I just want to read something with science people in any other settings than Sci-fi.
Suggest me something you enjoyed reading.
Also, please no Ali Hazelwood books.

Is social scientist OK? Bellwether by Connie Willis. I was just talking about it on another thread. So fun. She’s a SF writer, but this is not SF.
The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara
Project Hail Mary
The Swarm by Frank Schatzing. Heavy on scientific details, all given in understandable chunks.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Sherlock Holmes is a scientist/detectorist. Kathy Reich’s ‘Bones’ series has a female scientist protagonist as do the many forensic copycat books, eg. Deaver’s Lincoln Rhymes books.
Lunar Base Experiments by Talia Rhea
Contact. Carl Sagan
A Natural History of dragons – main character is a Naturalist researching Dragons. Think Charles Darwin or Jane Goodall but with dragons.
Perdido street station – this is a weird steampunk fantasy. there’s cactus people, frog people, remade(prisoners with new steampunk or biological apendages as punishment), there’s quite a bit of what we should probably call magic, and the main character is a scientist.
in the emily wilde series by heather fawcett, emily is a hardcore academic — i’d call her a scientist on some level. carissa broadbent’s six scorched roses novella from the crowns of nyaxia series also features a protagonist who’s a scientist, although the without the context of the other books and the series (none of which have a scientist protagonist), it may not fully make sense.
i’d also maybe give babel by rf kuang a try? more academic than science again, but could be worth a try!
Lessons in chemistry?
Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
The Blighted Stars – Megan O’Keefe
Vox by Christina Dalcher
The concept is super interesting, being a spin on the handmaid’s tale. I did not love the main character or the ending but the read was super interesting and I loved the concept
Lessons in Chemistry, Bonnie Garmus.
Jurassic Park, the main characters are archaeologists and mathematicians. Lot of biology stuff in there too
The Galileo series by Keigo Higashino
The Martian by Andy Weir.
Contact by Carl Sagan.
A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. Cozy horror. Protagonist is an entomologist. It’s also quite humorous!
Bewildered by Richard Powers
