Novels that explore how you may be very similar with someone on paper, but you may not have affinity with them and instead with someone who isn’t like you at all

I'm looking for novels that explore how you can have many of the same labels with someone, same social standing, same habits, same political leanings, same occupation, etc, but instead have no affinity with them in practice and instead you can work things out with someone so extremely different.
