I’d like my books to hold me hostage; chain me to a basement floor, beat me and deprive me of water, food and sunlight. Any recommendations?

I’ve been reading some books lately but finding it hard to find stories that are emotional or painful but compelling reads.

Last time I cried at a book was Little Women, Kite Runner (most Khaled books made me cry), East of Eden and Wild Swans.

Keen to get recommendations – prefer non-fiction but grateful for all recommendations.
