I had a craving to read a book in an afternoon so I went to my local bookshop and got small things like these by Claire Keegan and loved it. I usually read pretty dense books, so I think having something enjoyable and quick to read on a Sunday feels like a treat.
My favourite kind of book is one that is beautifully written and a bit sad. I don't like crime, romance or fantasy (although i am open to trying things in these genres if they arent conventional or could be enjoyed by people who generally avoid these genres). I like sci-fi but nothing too technical.
Some authors I've loved: octavia butler, Sally Rooney, ocean vuong, Elif Shafak, Douglas Stuart.
Not opposed to reading books written by white anglophone men, but also want the authors i read to be from diverse backgrounds.
Thanks

Love & Saffron by Kim Fay
Foster by Claire Keegan
Since you mentionned Douglas Stuart, try The Fall of Kelvin Walker by Alasdair Gray. I read it over an afternoon. It’s fantastic.
Before the Coffee Get Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi might fit the bill.
Also possibly The Perks of Being a Wallflower or Animal Farm.
The English Understand Wool by Helen DeWitt. You can read it in an hour or so, but it’s a gut punch.
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, by Truman Capote.
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin. It’s science fiction short novel that’s less than 200 pages.
Weather by Jenny Offill
And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrik Bachman
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.
