I'm always chasing books like these, but I don't know what to call the common thread between them (if there even is one)… Maybe it's just "high concept fiction"? A lot of it is sci-fi, but not all — and there's a lot of sci-fi without this special sauce.
Just something about the grounded yet fantastical and mysterious premises of these stories that I find so engrossing and gives me an "I must know more" feeling.
Appreciate any suggestions for more stories like these, or help with what it is that I'm trying to describe here 😛

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is another dystopian novel I really enjoyed.
They are dystopian speculative fiction—mostly dystopian sci-fi specifically.
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson is another example of the genre.
