Suspense about an ordinary guy having to use his wits to get out of extraordinary circumstances?

Just watched Carry On and want more like it. Loved the book Vertical Run too.

Looking for that suspenseful think on your feet to overcome impossible and dangerous situations.

Not like true stories or natural disaster type situations. More like bad guy type stuff.
