I just finished reading this yesterday and I'm just absolutely shocked how completely different the two are. I know adaptations require changes to be made and some plot points to be cut, but I've never come across a book and film adaptation to be so wildly different. I just started The Bourne Supremacy last night, so no spoilers on that book please. What are your thoughts?

There are so many differences that I consider the two to be completely separate things.

    2. I’ve never talked to anyone else that actually read the book, so I’m really excited to see this post. I wondered why they gave the movie the same title it was so different from the book.

    3. Read the second book and then watch the movie. The only thing they have in common is Jason Bourne. Literally. The entire book takes place in China. No one even orders Chinese food in the movie. The word China never comes up in the movie. Every single thing was different.

It’s like whoever got the rights to the books, like the concept only. I believe all of the movies were made after Robert Ludlum died.

edit to add: Just checked, he died in 2001 and the first movie was made in 2002.

Children Of Men is completely different from the book aside from the overall premise.

If you want to go way back, Shirley Temple’s Rebecca Of Sunnybrook Farm has zero relationship to the plot of the book.

    5. I tried to read the novel when the movie came out and was utterly confused, trying to make my brain connect it to the movie.
Enough time has passed now that I barely remember the movie (only saw the first) and I actually have it on my list of books to read this year.

    6. I couldn’t believe the movie when I watched it after reading the book. They just… omitted an entire third of the plot?

I guess it would’ve taken a lot of directing skill to do it justice as the psychological thriller the book is.

Instead they installed Matt Damon into the same action scenes he’s done his whole life and called it a day.

This is all to say, I did still really enjoy the film lol It just doesn’t compare to the quality of the novel.
