Just looking for a book that has knights that are girls, and is totally normal about it. In sci-fi there's a lot of military/political/religious organizations that include women without much fuss, with the assumption that an advanced futuristic society would have already gotten over concepts like racism and sexism for the most part.
I'd like to find a historical fiction or fantasy book where sexism is mostly or entirely nonexistent, and women are present in all parts of society- including, in particular, as knights.
To be clear, I don't want a major theme in the book to be about the 'girl knight' overcoming sexist expectations. I just want her to do knight stuff and everyone to be fine with it.
My imagined ideal novel would be a King Arthur retelling where everything is the same but like at least half the round table happens to be made up of women, and probably Merlin is a girl too. Is that too much to ask?
I've seen this done successfully in video games (Dragon Age), and TV shows (The Dragon Prince), but I'm having a harder time finding a novel that fits this concept, especially because I'd like something that isn't YA romance.
Anything come to mind? Please let me know!
