Very specifically, a book about how normal people acted. I heard recently a talk on a book like this, about how, regardless of how the collapse was inevitable, everyone acted completely normally, going about their lives as if nothing was happening. However I didn't catch the title! Does anyone have any ideas?

It was probably [Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets](https://a.co/d/9AFnNOL) by Svetlana Alexievich. Check out her other books too.
