I noticed that I only read high fantasy(stormlight archive, first law, malazan) and space opera(suneater, dune, red rising) and classics like(brothers karamazov, the count of monte cristo, anne kaenina… etc) but not modern literary books i am as much clueless as the next guy except maybe some haruki murakami and khalid hosseni books

    1. Don’t be fascinated by some other guys, who mark several amount of books as “classic”. What does it mean? What are your expectations from “classic books” ?

I’ve read a lot of ‘classic’, and for my personal opinion a lot of them were totally bullshit. It were really boring and hard for reading, because it were about some problems from some people which I really done care at all.

So, now I’m looking for books which is really interesting for me, and wish everybody to do the same.

I think you might want to look into the genre called _Literary Fiction_. Combine that with winners or nominees of various competitions (e.g. Booker prize) and you have a good chance of finding a contemporary novel that has the “feel” of those classics you mentioned.

If I have to pick one that I enjoyed (fitting the above criteria): {{Klara and the Sun}}, nicely written and original plot.

    3. Some contemporary literary fiction you might like that uses some sci-fi elements:

      Severance by Ling Ma

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel

      Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

      Other modern classics (imo):

      There There by Tommy Orange

      The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

      Brooklyn by Colm Toibin

    4. A Million Tomorrows by Kris Middaugh.

I run the indie imprint that publishes it. It’s a romance with some grounded sci-fi. References and has a similar tone to The Great Gatsby and/or Dickens.

What would you risk for a chance to do it all over again?

      Enjoy!
