It comes I assume with getting more cynical/jaded as I get older, but all the books I would list as my all-time favorites(Moby Dick, Slaughterhouse Five, the first few ASOIAF books, a few Malazan books) I read when I was in my early to mid 20s. I’m in my later 30s and it feels like even if I really enjoy something, it just doesn’t hit like it used to. Given my examples, my preferred genre is clearly more adventurous fiction, but who knows, maybe I’m missing out on something I would love by limiting myself to that(i’ve never read a mystery series or basically any non-fiction, for example). So any genre is welcome, just something that shot up your favorites list that you read post-30.

I tried to read classics when I was younger and it was very difficult. I find I have a lot more patience now to go through the same books and I get a lot more out of it.
I only began reading at age 30 lmao. For some reason I intentionally avoided reading assigned things in high school (sparknotes instrad). One of my many regrets
Try Swan Song by Robert McCammon. I just finished it and I’m 35. The first 100 pages or so are heavy character building, but after that it gets CRAZY when shit hits the fan. It’s a beast of a book at 950 pages but it’s easily now on my top 10 list of all time.
Following this thread! I’m in my early 30s and feeling like I haven’t had a 5-star read in years.
