    Hi everyone
I, 35M, it’s looking for suggestions on good fantasy books. Mostly like Harry Potter or something like that. I read fourth wing and iron flame, as well as zodiac Academy, where I skipped out on every part where they had sex. is there a series of books like these that are not written for teenage girls 😅 I read them because I like the magic and supernatural creatures like dragons, phoenixes, etc.

I mostly listen to books when I’m driving back-and-forth from work so it should not be some complex books like Game of Thrones for example. My native language is Danish, but I wouldn’t mind listening to English titles

    1. No dragons or phoenixes but plenty of magic in Six of Crows. It’s a two book series with no smut and minimal romance.

Earthsea series by Ursula K LeGuin

The Magicians Trilogy by Lev Grossman

The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski

    3. The Spellmonger by TL Mancour is a great series for fantasy nerds who like magic. No sex scenes, good combat, well thought out magical systems, and a lot of action to keep it interesting

Well, Fourth Wing and Iron Flame are romantasy, so that explains that 😄 I recently read The Shadow Glass by Josh Winning, maybe you’ll like that. It’s basically an ode to dark fantasy stories from the ’80’s, like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Neverending Story, etc. And I personally haven’t read any yet, but apparently the John Gwynne Bloodsworn books are good. It’s kind of norse mythology based fantasy, so not so much Harry Potter, but still, could be worth checking out. In terms of urban fantasy, the Rivers of London series is great imo. They’re set in ‘our world’, same way Harry Potter is, only turns out magic is real. It follows a young London cop who accidentally stumbles upon a magical crime, and is taken on as an apprentice by the only wizard left in London/England, who also just so happens to be a consultant for the Met. It’s funny, can be quite dark in places, adventurous, and the magic system is very interesting. If you enjoy that, also consider checking out Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, and maybe start with Guards! Guards!. And then there’s Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, if you’re ready to take on another tome of a book. It’s kind of alternative history fantasy, steeped in British folklore, and amazingly well-written. It reads like it’s a real historical novel, instead of fantasy.

    5. Discworld, Sir Terry Pratchett, 40 books that don’t have to be read in order. Written so well he was knighted for them.

I also read all of the popular fantasy books for the story and the actual fantasy. I don’t skip the sex but man do I get tired of it by the end of a book.

Not sure how you feel about YA books but last year I read some of Percy Jackson. It being written for kids means there isn’t sex and romance forced in throughout and it is still great fantasy. Especially if you like Greek Mythology. I only read 4 of them so I can’t speak for the later ones but the first few are a fun and easy read for adults.

I found Brandon Sanderson’s storytelling fascinating! Haven’t discovered the rest of his books but currently hooked to The Stormlight Archive. I did not read a lot of Fantasy books, Harry Potter being the exception. But, Stormlight Archive books are literally un-putdownable!

Also, audiobooks of this series – read by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. Probably some of the best narrators!!!
