When I say realistic I don’t mean like completely our world (though it can be). I mean the psychological ideas presented are realistic. Most psychological books I see end up being too fantastical to be that captivating for me. It gets set in reality but then just outlandish stuff happens which imo just brings me right out of it. I’m looking for either a 100% set in reality book or one that is placed in a fantastical world (INTENTIONALLY). It’s not a book but Neon Genesis is a great example of something I’m looking for. It’s based in a fantasy world so things that would normally be outlandish in a world based in reality, seem regular.

Also a lot of them tend to be monotone in its approach. Not really having much expression and just sticking to one idea of being sad or alone, which is fine but it never feels like you go anywhere. There’s no glorious ups or heartbreaking down. It’s always just average sad throughout the whole book. Also not a big fan of romance or multi-series books… thanks
