Two of our best book group discussions were 1. reading a selection from a classic sci-fi compilation curated by Orson Scott Card, and 2. listening to The Witch Trials, a very well-done podcast about the J.K. Rowling controversy (personally, I came away feeling that Rowling wasn't hearing the criticisms levied against her).
We've also read poetry books, nonfiction, a ton of travelogues, and a couple westerns. I'm just looking for something different or exciting that will spur another great discussion.
Podcasts, for our record, totally count. They often read just like audiobooks.
