Hello readers of Reddit! Every year I set myself a reading goal that is centred around a topic with the intention to open my mind to new books/authors I would not ordinarily pick up!
This year my goal is: well written love stories – I am not a genre specific reader, very happy to read anything of any length, with that being said, I truly appreciate beautiful prose and writing, characters of substance!
So! Now I turn to you, please suggest the best love story you’ve read – something well written, the love story can play a small or big part, it can be romantic, platonic, any facet of love, can be any genre, any author (not Colleen Hoover, not shitting on anyone who enjoys it, just not for me!) (also am sadly not very into any of the current romantasy stuff, albeit trying my best to be — this is preempting any fourth wing recs) for reference I’ve considered the following as beautiful stories:
- Left Hand of Darkness (not to be the person who always talks about this on Reddit, but I will always talk about this book!)
- Persuasion (it’s so silly and so fun)
- Intermezzo (so grief seeps into everything right???) (and grief is another form of love!)
- How to lose the time war (wept) (as in I wept)
TLDR: wants to read a good love story, asking for fiction suggestions with a great love story, any genre, any length
Thank you!! ☺️

All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata.
The Walshes series by Kate Canterbary. Particularly books 1, 2, and 4 (Matt, Patrick, and Shannon Walsh). Also The Worst Guy by Kate Canterbary. There’s some great literary technique in that book in particular.
