It’s historical fantasy, so not necessarily the accurate statistics, but gives great examples of the opium epidemic in China due to heavy colonialism: Babel, or the Poppy War trilogy, both by RF Kuang. The Poppy War Trilogy deals with it more; but it’s a huge effect of the socio-economic relations for the world in both books. Not nonfiction, unfortunately, but very good reads nonetheless. Author studied Chinese History and Studies at both Oxford and Cambridge, and currently is studying East Asian Languages at Yale (so she’s a super smart cookie).
