I will be real with you, I just woke up from dreaming about this book. And despite it not being real I was hoping to get suggestions on any existing books that may be similar.
The book was about a Japanese woman moving to Europe to live with her husband and his family. The setting was super fancy, I'm talking beautiful, ornate mansions with dark wood inside. I can't pinpoint the style exactly, but it was more old timey and very dark. The setting was modern though. Around current day.
And speaking of dark the entire aesthetic of the book was like that.
It was a sort of mystery book? There was some kind of plotting going on. The family was rich and had a lot of secrets. There was definitely a family feud going on and I think the protagonist was supposed to figure out who she can trust in order to survive with a bunch of people fighting for inheritance.
That's about as much as I remember.
I would be thrilled to hear suggestions on literally anything similar. What's most important to me is that the setting is dark(can be both aesthetically and thematically tbh), relatively modern setting but fancy villas and that it's rich people obsessing over their bullshit (bonus point if they don't get it. My kink is rich people not getting what they want)
Hope this isn't too odd of a request, but if you can suggest anything like that to me I would be happy.
