I find I really enjoy books that take place in the London season, with balls, debutantes, all that. Era doesn’t really matter as long as it’s before WWII – I enjoy Edwardian, Victorian, Regency, whatever.

I’m not talking trash romance novels – I’ve read my share of Bridgerton type stuff and had enough of it, I’m looking for higher quality/better writing.

A lot of golden age mysteries have this type of setting (I’m just rereading Ngaio Marsh’s Death in a White Tie), but I think I’ve read all of them I can get my hands on already. I enjoy Jane Austen. I didn’t care for Georgette Heyer. Vanity Fair was interesting. I love The Importance of Being Earnest.

Basically I’m looking for anything of decent quality set in the (preferably pre world wars) London season, whether drama, mystery, romance, whatever, written then or written later, and not too dark/gritty. I like happy endings.
