I'm looking for a book that captures the eerie, gothic horror and cosmic dread of Bloodborne—the decaying cityscapes, eldritch mysteries, and themes of forbidden knowledge—but without directly pulling from H.P. Lovecraft.
I want something that feels unsettling, with a deep, immersive atmosphere, a sense of madness creeping in, and perhaps even a touch of tragic beauty. Bonus points if it has intricate worldbuilding or poetic, evocative prose.
Any recommendations?

I’ve been searching for this, too. So I’m kinda commenting to see what others come up with.
I get that itched scratched from John Langan’s the Fisherman. He briefly describes a city behind the veil.
I read a duology called “The Rim of Morning” which was pretty great.
I enjoyed Piranesi as a reverse lovecraftian story.
None of these are what you wanted, though. I have other recs that scratch the itch but if you find something please let me know
