Series I've loved like this: the Red Rising series (Pierce Brown), the Murderbot Diaries (Martha Wells), the Broken Earth Trilogy (NK Jemison), everything Becky Chambers has ever written.

I need to like the main characters and have an emotional attachment with them to enjoy a book.

    Thanks so much!!

A lot of people poo poo these books but the Dan Brown books are entertaining!

Also everyone is talking about Fourthwing for a reason! Neither are science fictiony but both are just fun reads that will keep you engaged the whole time!

    2. You have to read Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Also his architects series. They’re so good.

    3. Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

      Mistborn series by Sanderson

Fourth Wing (Empyrean series) by Rebecca Yarros

I was never a big scifi fan, I’d read a few Bradbury and Asimov books, but wasn’t a scifi fan. Then I read Citizen of the Galaxy by Robert Heinlien. Through him I read almost all of Larry Niven, as well as most of Heinlien’s works. Citizen of the Galaxy might be a good one for you.

I really enjoyed Witch King by Martha Wells! It has good action and fascinating fantasy worldbuilding

    6. I just binged my way through the dungeon crawler Carl series. I haven’t binged a series like that in a long time. Best part is that it is both fantasy and sci fi 🙂

You might try Saturn Run by John Sandford and Ctein. It’s a type of first contact novel that has a couple of interesting subplots that keep it interesting. It’s pure sci-fi, so if you are at all looking for fantasy, this one isn’t for you.

Yahtzee Croshaw, funny author with great characters.

Differently Morphus and Existentially Challenged – Governmental agency involved in the regulation of magic and extra dimensional beings.

Mogworld – Main character is undead. Hijinks ensue.

The Jacques McKeown series – An unemployed star pilot tries to get by in a universe where transporters are a thing. The first book in the series is Will save the galaxy for food.

      L.G. Estrella’s Unconventional Heros Series

The 2 Necromancers series. 2 Necromancers try to earn a pardon for past crimes by doing odd jobs for a kingdom. Strong found family vibe. The first book in the series is 2 Necromancers, A Bureaucrate, and an Elf.

Attempted Vampirism Series. A vampire noble has his castle repossessed for back taxes. He becomes an adventurer to try and earn money to buy it back.

The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy by Will Wight. Magic is used by calling energy and creatures from other worlds called territories. People who can draw from their territories are called travelers. The first book in the series is House of Blades.

I watched the first couple episodes of the **Silo** tv adaptation on Apple TV and then couldn’t wait to find out what happened and immediately bought the trilogy by Hugh Howey (first book is called *Wool*). It did not disappoint.

Basically all of humanity (about 10k people) live inside this giant, sealed, underground silo. It’s been so long since they were driven underground, no one remembers why anymore. They just know that if they go outside, they will die. Obviously eventually someone isn’t going to be able to resist the urge to see for themselves. All three books have that great mystery at the center that you are sooo sure that you’ve almost figured out but don’t actually find out until the end. Kind of post-apocalyptic, sci-fi vibes.

I also enjoyed **Wayward Pines** trilogy by Blake Crouch (first book is called *Pines*). Another one that keeps you guessing for each book, but especially the first in this case. A secret service agent is sent to investigate the disappearance of two colleagues in a small, idyllic Idaho town. Once he arrives, he is immediately in a horrific car crash that kills his partner. He wakes up in the town’s hospital, but the more he tries to insist who he is and what he’s doing there, the less anyone believes him. The town has got sort of a *Stepford Wives* vibe – it’s storybook perfect… a little *too* perfect. The less you know going in the better, and you have to read pretty much the full first book to know, but I promise it fits into your requested book type.
