I've been running a social justice-oriented book group with some friends for a few years and we are looking for our next read. We are interested in something relating to the civil rights movement but I wanted to push us beyond just reading about history and find something that uses lessons from past civil rights movements to discuss/present realistic future actions in today's world. Something connecting past civil rights efforts with current global or American politics/events would also fit what I'm looking for.
Thank you in advance!

Not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for but you could try *Black against empire* by Bloom and Martin.
Leadership without easy answers by Heifetz is old but has some of what you want
Waging a Good War by Thomas Ricks. Amazing look at the Civil Rights movement as a military campaign…VERY important lessons for today with opportunities to compare/contrast recent activism
