Spoilers for the Expanse TV show.
I am looking for a book featuring well-executed fights/battles and competent characters/commanders. I really liked the Expanse TV series. The battle of IO in particular is one of my favorite sequences ever but fell short is a couple ways. It all happened way too quick for my liking and the whole thing ended up being a giant plot convenience for Fred Johnson to save to day with his stolen missiles. The Expanse also provided me with one of my most hated “battles” ever, that being Ashford’s boarding action and death scene. I hate going into a battle with obvious redshirts who ALL die and leave only named characters. Why didn’t Ashford shoot Marcos? That’s what he came to do, isn’t it? Why surrender so they can execute you? Ashford’s plan was foiled because he failed to consider that there might be one extra guy on board? Wtf?
TLDR: I like SCI-Fi and horror but am open to other genres. I want a story that features clearly layed out battles with competent characters. I hate plot armor and redshirts.
