I'm in a writing class and later in the semester, we're watching The End of the Tour, which I've discovered is a movie about David Foster Wallace. I haven't read any of his stuff yet, though Infinite Jest has been on my TBR for a while. I'm curious if I should make a point of trying to read it before we watch the movie? I know media about an artist is often much more meaningful if you've already engaged with their art, though sometimes engaging with the art can be more meaningful once you've learned more about the artist through something like a movie, too. If you've seen the movie, what do you recommend?

It’s a great movie and reading his work isn’t required to watch it.
If you want to check something out though maybe try Consider the Lobster which is a collection of essays.
I think it’s pretty good. I’m not a big DFW guy (I’ve yet to read Jest), but I’ve read many of his essays and seen quite a few interviews. I feel the script is solid, but the biggest standout was Jason Segel’s performance. He absolutely nails Wallace. It’s easily one of his best performances
Really good movie. Jason Segal kills is. I saw it before I had read IJ or any of his other work. Go for it!
Definitely don’t need to read Infinite Jest first
