So when i was younger on a holiday i read a book that was set in Japan about a police detective.
It was a random book on a random bookshelf in a random holiday house, i picked it up bored and then couldn't stop reading it. I've been trying to hunt down this book as it was one of the books that spurred me to get into reading as a kid.
Some of my memory is hazy but what I can remember, is below
The Story
A Tokyo police detectives family is murdered, so he gets sent to an onsen (In osaka i think) to relax and take stock before coming back to work.
He gets caught up in murders that are happening in the onsen and tries to solve them.
There's a whole link back to his family being murder and crime syndicate (this part i can't remember)

It was a red cover
for some reason i remember/think it was written by an Australian author
