hello people,
i just received the horrible message from a friend that she has cancer and will be starting treatment soon.
i got a message from another friend that she needs a lot of encouragement right now. so i remembered that i gifted her a book once and she liked it. so i am figuring right now i want to get her a small collection of books (maybe 3-5) to choose from. my brain literally is empty right now.. i wasnt an avid reader as well in the last years (I used to and picked it up recently chewing on dune..). So I am turning to you for recommendations. So here it is what I can share:
– we know each other from teaching music. she loves any kind of music. the book i gifted her was in fact victor wootens "music lesson". She is a very good musician so anything on a very deep level works for her and is probably more entertaining for her. she is also a passionate educator so maybe somebody knows something very specific.
– she loves cooking. i think specifically she is into traditional cooking, maybe moreso in traditional russian cooking
-she really likes philosophy. but im not really sure what kind of "genres".
-if it is an english book i would probably get the original language, but if by any chance somebody has a german recommendation, i would take it as well.
-generally i am looking for uplifting stuff. something that kills the time and maybe offers a little bit of escapism
I thank you for your recommendations!

IDK.. this is maybe a bit out of left-field, but… it’s a book like no other, and somewhat to my surprise (I got it on a whim) I really enjoyed it: called *The Lost Pianos of Siberia* by Sophy Roberts.
It’s hard to describe, but … history, music, travel… and if you think you know Siberia, after reading this you’ll realize you didn’t. It’s an extraordinary, engrossing book. [Here](https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/feb/05/the-lsot-pianos-of-siberia-by-sophy-roberts-review-a-journey-to-the-end-of-everything) is The Guardian’s review of it.
