this is going to sound strange but since i was a child i have always had what i call “narnia dreams” where i end up finding a portal of some sort that transports me to a new place. i have crawled under my pillow into somewhere else….once i climbed a staircase of cardboard boxes to a window that took me to a beach on a mountain top, idk. i should add that my husband finds it amusing that i always “wake up happy” and ive tried to explain it’s because my dreams are awesome, but he doesn’t get it.
anyway a few books i read that made me feel seen were {the ten thousand doors of january} {the midnight library} {this time tomorrow} each one i found by accident so im looking to you EXPERTS here for some advice on how to find similar books. my only contingency is that you enjoyed it lol. thank you in advanced.

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanen Mcguire
In Five Years by Rebecca Serle might fit the bill
There are a lot of children’s or YA novels with this kind of theme, such as *Lonely Castle in the Mirror* and *The Neverending Story*, and, of course, the Narnia books. If you’re looking for books aimed at an adult reading level, there’s a two book series starting with *The Mirror of Her Dreams* that I liked. The same author (Stephen R. Donaldson) also has a many book series of Thomas Covenant which also involve a person being transported to another world, but I didn’t like them much because >!I have no sympathy whatsoever for the rapist protagonist.!<
Kindred; Octavia Butler
The Library Trilogy by Mark Lawrence (the first book is The Book That Wouldn’t Burn)
The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman
The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norman Juster
This is a spooky/creepy one: The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig
“The Many Colored Land” by Julian May is the first book of a four book series. In the early 22nd century a one-way portal is discovered that leads to the Pliocene epoch. The book is about a bunch of people who are, for various reasons, misfits in their time and decide to try their luck in the distant past.
And of course the classic portal book is Alice in Wonderland.
The Book of Doors, The Invisible Library series, The Dragon Heart series (first book is The Awakening).
Outlander.
