Hi all, my 2025 reading challenge is to read something nature-based in as many biozone as I can. Things is, everything is very, very male dominatedor written for little kids. While I don't mind male writers (quite love many!) I'm a little over the sausagefest. Can anyone recommend some (non fiction) naturalist books where women are not just a brief shadow, please? I'm not into the airy fairy earth mother BS, I just want women artists, scientists, writers, explorers. Have read Mr and Mrs Gould, not at all interested in Braiding Sweetgrass. No poetry, no philosophy, no religion.

I can’t quite tell what you’re looking for but maybe you’ll like *The sixth extinction* by Elizabeth Kolbert or *The light eaters* by Zoe Schlanger.
When you say no poetry, does that mean you don’t like lyrical writing? Because I am hesitating on recommending you Rachel Carson’s books about the sea for instance, or Diane Ackerman’s The Moon by Whale Light or Rarest of the Rare since their writing style is very poetic.
If that doesn’t appeal to you, maybe something like Citizen Science: How Ordinary People are Changing the Face of Discovery by Caren Cooper.
might not be exactly what you’re looking for but “How Far the Light Reaches: A Life in Ten Sea Creatures” as been on my TBR shelf for a bit!
Terry Tempest Williams is an excellent nature writer and any of her books could apply here, particularly her essay collection Erosion! Also, Trace by Lauret Savoy!
