I enjoy Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell or even Hugo Claus’ The Sorrow of Belgium because you can feel that the narrator acknowledges the character’s faults, even makes fun of it, but with attachement rather than mockery, and I feel like there is so much love in that tone.
Any suggestions? Even if the book isn’t available in English, I might be able to find a translation in another language I speak 🙂
