i have never been a poetry type of person. there’s only been a handful of poems that i have read and liked in previous high school and college literature courses. i’ve read and liked poems such as “daddy” by sylvia plath and “aunt jennifer’s tigers” by adrienne rich. those poems slapped. i loved the emotion, writing styles, and themes behind those poems. even 6 years after reading them, i think about them constantly.
looking for a poetry collection that is approachable and not too “abstract.”
please don’t recommend rupi kaur or anything that super instagram-y. i’m not trying to start a war or anything; i just don’t like writing styles similar to rupi kaur. or anything overly flowery.
