I happened to stumble across a leather bound version of The Works of Henry David Thoreau that was reasonably priced on thriftbooks. Somehow I convinced myself that my copy of Walden was looking a little ragged and needed replacement anyway.

I thought I would share and and ask since this community might appreciate the find. What was the last special edition you guys purchased that made you excited?

There's just something about the weight, feel and the ribbon bookmark. It all makes me genuinely happy.

    1. I got some youngin relatives of mine the leather bound editions of *The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings* , And some other not-quite-so-much-but-still-youngin relatives the leather bound editions of *ASoIaF*.

    2. Just a note to say that Thoreau’s Walden is the book I have the most copies of. Some books just cry-out to be collected. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    3. Do folio editions count? Then just yesterday a used edition (for a pretty good price) of the mystery of the blue train and 4.50 from Paddington by Christie.

Besides that the kwaidan collection by Lafcadio Hearn from Beehive books.

I got special editions of The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater from Owlcrate. It was my favorite series as a teenager and I tend to reread it every few years. It still holds up for me. I hated the original cover of The Raven Boys, and I like the new designs and art.

    5. The Easton press edition of the Arabian Nights.

Not so much for the binding or ribbon, or gold accents

But because every other reprinting I could find changed things

The Easton press kept some things others changed, like in volume 12

The Complete Works of H. P. Lovecraft in a horrible blue hardcover binding with garish metallic stampings from the published-for-the-remainder-table section of B&N.

      Do not judge me.

    7. I didn’t purchase it but I received the 10 year anniversary of Leviathan Wakes for Christmas. Those hot pink edges fill me with glee!
