As the title says, I'm seeking recommendations for novels with exceptional twists regardless of whether the twists stand out for positive or negative reasons. I want narrative turns that inspire extreme reactions: stories that inspire awe as pieces snap into place like intricate puzzle boxes or stories that blow up in such extraordinary fashion that the rest of the book is tainted.
My only stipulation is I don't want to be told which (good or bad twist) to expect from a recommendation. I'm hoping to come away from this post with a list of novels (I'd also be open to short stories and novellas) that I know have something remarkable happen, and I'll only find out if they were suggested for positive or negative reasons afterwards.
I hope that makes sense. I've been on a big mystery kick lately and this feels like a fun game to play with my reading list.
