Hello all, im hoping yall can help me generate some ideas. I have a young (17) family member who is currently living in a Christian-run facility. She loves to read and when I asked if she has read anything good recently, she says they have restrictions on what they can read, like no romance, anything too magical, etc.

I'm trying to think of books I can send her that she would like and would be approved by the facility. Her favorites books are the Hunger Games books and the Maze Runner, and I know she also likes other YA fantasy and historical fiction.

I am currently drawing a blank and am open to all suggestions! Would love to send her something new and exciting to read while she's there.

    1. Maybe the Ravenwood Saga by Morgan Busse, she’s a Christian YA fantasy author.

It does have dreamwalking though so I’m not sure if they would consider that magic.

My friend enjoyed A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers, which is the first in the Mark of the Lion trilogy, it’s Christian historical fiction set in the Roman Empire. I’ve read the first one and liked it fine, it wouldn’t be my first choice if I had free reign but I think it’s a good candidate with the limitations on place. It does have a romance plot in it but the whole point is the main character girl is very steadfast in her faith as she decides if or how she can have that romance be part of her life. You may want to check if Christian romance is allowed before sending.

Ted Dekker is a Christian fantasy author. I like his Circle trilogy (Black, Red and White). Same things you’d need to check, it has romance subplots but nothing sexually explicit to my recollection, and obvious fantasy elements but it’s based on Christianity.
